Lamu is a historic island town on Kenya’s northern coast, part of the Lamu Archipelago in the Indian Ocean. It is Kenya’s oldest continually inhabited town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its preserved Swahili architecture, narrow alleyways, carved wooden doors, and strong Islamic cultural traditions.

Lamu has a slow, car-free atmosphere — transport is mainly by donkey and dhow (traditional sailing boats). The town blends African, Arab, Persian, and Indian influences, creating a unique Swahili culture found nowhere else in East Africa.
